Built Down Under is a podcast about the unglamorous middle of building a business.
Australia's largest overseas-born community is now from India, and Indian-origin founders are starting businesses here and in New Zealand at a rate few people have noticed. Some run online stores out of a garage. Some supply Coles, Woolworths and Bunnings. Some run ASX-listed companies. Almost none of them get asked the questions that actually matter to another owner.
So that is what this show does.
What you'll hear
- The real numbers. Revenue, margins, ad spend, what the first retail order was worth and what it cost to fulfil.
- The near misses. The month the money nearly ran out, the hire that went wrong, the supplier that didn't ship.
- The decisions. Which sales channel actually worked, what the first buyer negotiation taught them, and what they stopped doing to move forward.
Every guest answers the same handful of operator questions, so you can compare how a packaging founder, a food brand and a franchisee each solved the same problem.
Who it's for
Owners and operators in Australia and New Zealand who want to hear from people a few steps ahead of them, told plainly. You don't need to be Indian-origin to get something out of it. You just need to be building something.
About the host
Vishal Sheth runs multiple e-commerce businesses in Australia, selling through Shopify, Amazon and retail partners. He started Built Down Under because the conversations he was having with other founders over chai were more useful than anything he could find on a podcast app.
New episodes weekly. If you run a business and have a story worth telling, apply to be a guest.
